Persons are again being reminded to dispose of any and all garbage properly.
It comes after the Works Ministry removed plastic bottles, food containers, and even grease from Port of Spain’s drainage system.
The exercise was carried out last night, with Minister Jearlean John, also walking along South Quay, up to the Lighthouse, to inspect drains, outfalls and ongoing cleaning and desilting works.
The Ministry says as much as 90% of flooding in the capital is linked to litter and waste blocking drains and waterways, adding “…human behaviour is a major part of the flooding challenge, and also a major part of the solution.”
It adds that while drains can be cleaned and desilted, keeping them clear requires an effort from everyone.
Yesterday, there were reports of flash flooding in Port of Spain, following persistent rainfall.
