Acting Prisons Commissioner Elvin Scanterbury says stronger security, better equipment and improved facilities are needed to address ongoing attempts to bring contraband into prisons.
His comments come after the latest interception of drugs being thrown over a wall at the Port of Spain Prison, early on Wednesday morning.
Officers found 400 cigarettes and a plant-like material resembling marijuana near the prison’s garbage disposal area.
Mr Scanterbury says the Prison Service will continue efforts to detect and stop the trafficking of illegal items into prisons, despite the ongoing limitations in the system.
