An inmate awaiting extradition to the United States has died.
According to the Prison Service, 32-year-old Raphael Joseph was found unresponsive around 6:15am yesterday in a cell at the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre.
First-aid was rendered, however based on the advice of the Prisons Medical Officer, he was taken to the Arima General Hospital for further treatment.
Despite this, Joseph was subsequently pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.
The Prison Service says at the time of his passing, the inmate had been under suicide protocol based on his mental state and general behaviour over the past two weeks.
The TTPS has been informed, with parallel investigations being conducted into his cause of death.
