As the Health Ministry strengthens the national immunisation and disease surveillance systems, Minister Dr Lackram Bodoe is urging the public to get vaccinated against influenza and HPV.
The Minister said more than 25,000 flu vaccine doses are currently available until the end of May, along with 20,000 HPV vaccine doses.
He noted that evidence shows the HPV vaccine can help prevent certain types of cancers in specific age groups.
This appeal came while he delivered the feature address at PAHO’s handover ceremony of Remote Temperature Monitoring devices.
He said the introduction of these devices brings the country closer to international best practices in immunisation and outbreak preparedness and also emphasized the importance of maintaining T&T’s measles-free status.
The event also marked Vaccination Awareness Week and included training for nurses in vaccine-preventable disease surveillance.
