A 31-year-old man has been handed the death penalty for the murder of his estranged common-law wife and their young daughter.
The verdict for Rishi Motilal was imposed by Justice Nalini Singh on Monday following a judge-alone trial.
34-year-old Tara Ramsaroop and 14-month-old Shermaya Motilal were fatally chopped at Rig Road in Barrackpore on October 8th 2024.
According to a Trinidad Express report, Motilal claimed he had been provoked, with Ramsaroop allegedly telling him that he would never see his children again.
This defence was rejected by Justice Singh, who found that Motilal’s actions demonstrated clear intent.
