Guyana left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has been drafted by the newly relaunched Barbados Tridents for the 2026 Caribbean Premier League season.

The Tridents confirmed Motie’s selection alongside the re-drafting of Sherfane Rutherford and Brandon King as part of their squad announcement on Friday.

The franchise’s return comes after a landmark partnership between the Government of Barbados and the Royals Sports Group, which will see the team revert from the Barbados Royals name to the Barbados Tridents ahead of the island’s 60th Independence celebrations.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley described the relaunch as a symbol of national pride and ambition, noting cricket’s longstanding role in Barbadian identity.

The revamped Tridents squad also includes Zachary Carter, Kadeem Alleyne, Ramon Simmonds, Shadrack Descarte, Rivaldo Clarke, Zishan Motara, Jakeem Pollard, Johann Layne and Kofi James.

Royals Sports Group says the new “One Barbados” partnership is intended to strengthen the franchise’s national and regional impact, while maintaining its long-term commitment to Caribbean cricket.
