The Government is moving to decentralise disaster supplies, to ensure emergency equipment is stored closer to communities and can be deployed more quickly when needed.
Speaking to 103.1FM News, Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen outlined how the changes are being implemented.
Minister Ameen added that the Regional Corporations are developing new administrative complexes, which will include dedicated disaster management spaces.
The Minister has reassured that the new system includes accountability measures to track equipment and supplies.
She said the Ministry will continue to work with the ODPM for all coordinated disaster relief efforts.
On Wednesday, the Ministry received a donation of nearly $1.5 million worth of disaster relief equipment from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The donated supplies include eight rescue boats, more than 50,000 sandbags, 19 portable generators, 600 mattresses, pressure washers, dewatering pumps, tarpaulins, chainsaws, and ring burners.
