A call is being made for the resignation or removal of Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander and Attorney General John Jeremie.
It comes from PNM MP Marvin Gonzales, following the decision to revoke the Preventative Detention Orders issued for Dominic and Genevieve Hadeed.
Mr Gonzales says the situation is “a national and constitutional disgrace” and believes citizens must urgently demand the removal from the two office holders.
He believes the Police Commissioner must also consider tendering his resignation to the Police Service Commission with immediate effect.
Also calling for Mr Alexander’s termination is former Top Cop Gary Griffith, who criticised the decision to authorise the detentions based on “credible intelligence” without charges being laid.
He argued that the information should have been developed into evidence capable of supporting criminal charges.
Mr Griffith also believes the Government’s reliance on intelligence in the absence of evidence has raised serious concerns about citizens’ right to freedom.
