The Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service says its investigation into the fire at Globe City Plaza in Chase Village has been halted after the scene was compromised.
Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Ansar Ali told the Trinidad Express intruders entered the damaged area and removed key evidence, including electrical wiring, making it impossible to determine the cause.
He said the investigation has now been classified as undetermined, with a final report being prepared.
The blaze, which affected a third of the commercial complex, caused millions in damage and major traffic disruptions along the highway corridor.
