The Ministry of Energy has granted hold-over letters to quarry operators, ensuring continuity of their licences, while strengthening transparency in the mining sector.
Energy Minister Roodal Moonilal led discussions on June 3rd with the T&T Aggregate Producers Association, where the move was welcomed by industry representatives.
Both sides also agreed on a clear framework to ensure new applicants meet all statutory requirements for mining licences.
At the end of June, the Ministry will host an Open Day with various stakeholders, to guide persons through the application process.
This will include members of the Minerals Advisory Committee, including the EMA, WASA, Town and Country Planning Division and the Commissioner of State Lands, who will meet applicants to provide guidance and assistance with completing applications.
