Drilling will soon start for the Tobago GAP-1 exploration well.
According to THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine, a meeting was held yesterday with representatives of EOG Resources for an update on the company’s plans for this project.
The proposed drilling site is about 22 kilometres off southwest Tobago, and the intention is to determine the hydrocarbon potential of the area.
During the meeting, the THA reportedly asked the company to re-engage Tobago’s fisherfolk ahead of drilling, to ensure they are kept informed.
Mr Augustine says they were initially consulted last year, along with tourism stakeholders and others.
While the exact start date for the drilling was not given, the Chief Secretary says an announcement will be made at least a week before the mobile rig is moved into place.
Should hydrocarbons be found, he says it will take 3 – 4 years to prepare Tobago to maximize the benefit that will come with it.
