The Customs & Excise Division has seized US$2 million in cash at Piarco International Airport, prompting an investigation by local authorities, with assistance from US law enforcement.

According to the T&T Express, the money, packed in a white crocus bag, belonged to a local bank and was being shipped to Miami.

Customs officers intercepted the shipment on June 25th, after identifying, what was described as, transactional and accountability deficiencies in the accompanying documents.

The bank has confirmed the cash is theirs and says the shipment was part of its normal operations and complied with all applicable laws and regulations.

The money is now being held at the Central Bank.
