Prison officers have seized a package containing 60 cigarettes that was thrown over a perimeter wall at the Port of Spain Prison.

In a statement, the T&T Prison Service said the package was intercepted around 4:50AM on Monday, after officers of the Emergency Response Unit received intelligence.

The cigarettes were concealed inside a Turbo Energy Drink bottle.

The Prison Service is again reminding persons that bringing prohibited items into prisons is against the law and can threaten the safety of inmates, officers and the wider public.

Investigations are continuing to identify those responsible.
