The Caribbean Court of Justice has dismissed an appeal brought by Azruddin Mohamed and his father Nazar Mohamed, clearing the way for extradition proceedings.
The Mohameds challenged the validity of an Authority to Proceed issued under Guyana’s Fugitive Offenders Act in connection with a request by the US for their extradition.
Their submission argued that the ATP was invalid because it was tainted by actual or apparent bias arising from public statements made by senior government officials during the 2025 election campaign in Guyana.
They also contended that the Home Affairs Minister had improperly consulted the Attorney General, who was likewise alleged to be biased.
Previously, both the High Court and the Court of Appeal ruled against the Mohameds.
These decisions have now been affirmed by the CCJ, which also rejected claims that the Minister’s decision was tainted by actual or apparent bias.
