A local autism support group is calling for greater attention to the needs of autistic adults, particularly on what happens after childhood for people on the spectrum.
On World Autism Awareness Day, Support Autism T&T says while services for children have expanded, at times, support becomes limited after the mid-teen years.
Highlighting this year’s UN theme, “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” the group is calling for coordinated action to create pathways for independence, inclusion, and support.
According to the group, many schools no longer accommodate autistic students beyond age 15 or 16, and options for further education, training, and employment remain limited.
As a result, some autistic adults face isolation at home, while families grow increasingly concerned about the future.
