Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander is urging students to “be the change they want to see,” as a new intervention programme launches at El Dorado West Secondary.
The Special Psychosocial Intervention and Educational Engagement initiative aims to guide at-risk youth through mentorship, support services, and real-life experiences.
“We cannot afford to see more youths go down that (negative) path. The first things in policing are prevention, intervention, and then incarceration,” he told students.
“So we are trying to avoid all the incarceration. Let’s do prevention and intervention, and that is what this team has decided to do.”
