ACP Richard Smith says extortion in Trinidad and Tobago is becoming increasingly sophisticated, targeting victims across all levels of society.

In addition to threats by phone-calls and revenge pornography, he says there have been instances involving money lenders.

ACP Smith said criminals are also using dating apps to lure victims, record encounters and then demand payments.

He said business owners, professionals, and even public officials have all been targeted, however many cases go unreported due to fear and embarrassment.

ACP Smith is urging persons to come forward to pursue these investigations, which he says will be treated with urgency and confidentiality.
