Another cache of cigarettes has been seized at the Maximum Security Prison.
Between 6:30am and 7:30am yesterday, a targeted search was launched, based on intelligence regarding the use of drones to deliver contraband items into the facility.
In a cell in the B Division, 33 packs of Lucky Strike cigarettes were found and seized.
A further 16 packs were also found inside a black sock on the prison’s rooftop.
Three inmates are expected to be charged in connection with the discovery of the prohibited articles.
Acting Prisons Commissioner Elvin Scanterbury says the fight against the introduction of contraband remains an uphill task, particularly as criminals continue to employ evolving methods and technology to circumvent established security measures.
He adds that the Service remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining the safety and security of its prisons through strengthened collaboration and continued support from external law enforcement agencies.
