The Emperor Valley Zoo is currently treating a neotropical otter with serious injuries.
In a Facebook post, the Zoo says the adult male otter was received on April 27th after being treated initially by a private vet.
The Zoo’s vet has since done a more comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, including radiographic imaging.
Initial examinations identified paralysis of the hindquarters and a minor laceration on the left hind limb.
The Zoo says the animal will receive ongoing supportive care, rehabilitation and continuous monitoring.
The neotropical otter is a freshwater predator native to parts of Latin America and the Caribbean.
