The Tertiary Education Ministry is welcoming its supplementary allocation of $19.8 million.
It says this will be used to facilitate outstanding salary-related payments and statutory obligations for staff at UWI St Augustine and COSTAATT.
According to the Ministry, $13 million was approved for retroactive payments in arrears to academic and senior administrative staff represented by WIGUT.
These payments cover the periods August 1st 2014 to July 31st 2017, and August 1st 2017 to July 31st 2020.
It says 56 employees at UWI are expected to benefit.
Meanwhile, $6.8 million will support the payment of gratuity and statutory obligations for staff at COSTAATT, including salary increases for the period 2012 to 2018, which were implemented in April 2026.
326 COSTAATT employees are expected to benefit from the approved salary increases, while 82 staff members will benefit from gratuity payments and related statutory obligations.
Minister Professor Prakash Persad says the allocations “demonstrate Government’s commitments to the people who contribute daily to the advancement of tertiary education and skills development.”
