Dog owners are being urged to regularly vaccinate their pets, as a surge in canine distemper virus cases is being reported across T&T.
The T&T Veterinary Association says the virus is mainly spread through respiratory droplets from infected dogs and can also spread through direct contact with infected bodily fluids.
It adds that there is no cure for the virus, with treatment focused mainly on supportive care.
Symptoms can include fever, loss of appetite, nasal and eye discharge, coughing and sneezing, as well as as well as a hardening of the paw pads.
Severe cases may also cause neurological problems, including seizures and difficulty walking.
