The Homeland Security Ministry has revoked the Preventative Detention Orders for Dominic and Genevive Hadeed.
In a statement, Minister Roger Alexander said he received a medical report outlining Mr Hadeed’s medical condition and a required care plan.
He also considered the Privy Council’s refusal to expedite the State’s challenge of an order to have the Hadeeds moved from prison to house arrest, saying this meant they would have to remain in jail until the end of the SoE.
Minister Alexander said he recognized that continuing detention in those circumstances would be disproportionate, adding that his constitutional responsibility meant weighing the individual rights of the detainees against national security and public safety considerations during the State of Emergency.
As such, a decision was made to revoke the PDOs.
This means the Hadeeds are now free.
Mr Alexander added however that the investigation into a plot to assassinate the Prime Minister and other members of the Government is continuing.
According to him, this probe has been expanded beyond the original scope and spans multiple jurisdictions.
He adds, “These matters are complex and require extensive cooperation between several investigative agencies.”
