More maxi taxis are expected out on the roads today, however some operators will continue their strike.

103.1FM News this morning with Secretary of Association of Maxi Taxi Trinidad and Tobago, Vickash Kissoondath, who says there was a discussion last evening on ending their action.

He added however that the decision was split.

The action by maxi taxi operators left scores stranded yesterday.

The Association met for several hours with Transport Minister Eli Zakour, however Mr Kissoondath says these talks were unproductive.

Mr Kissoondath says the Association now intends to reach out directly to the other ministries, in the hopes of having them address the issues that fall under their purviews.

The operators have called for an increase in the highway speed limit for maxi taxis – from 65 to 80 km per hour, stronger crime fighting measures, a crackdown on illegal PH taxis, and payment of outstanding monies for transporting schoolchildren.

103.1FM News has also reached out to the Transport Minister for a comment regarding yesterday’s meeting and are awaiting a response.
