Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen believes that the NPUPS maintenance programme can continue alongside a proposed prison labour programme.
She made the comments today during a visit to the Barataria South Secondary School, where NPUPS teams assisted with cleanup and maintenance, ahead of the new school term.
The Minister said the two programmes are not in competition, adding that there is enough work for both.
Minister Ameen acknowledge that some communities are still awaiting cleanup, reiterating the call for more teams to meet the growing demand for maintenance.
She also noted that requests are now coordinated through the regional corporations, with MPs and councillors submitting them to designated coordinators for scheduling.
Meanwhile, Minister Ameen has confirmed that negotiations are ongoing to secure a new lease for the San Juan-Laventille Regional Corporation at the MTS Plaza.
She said while options for alternative locations were proposed, keeping the office at its current location would be the least disruptive option for residents who rely on its services.
Minister Ameen said the Corporation will continue operating from the MTS Plaza while negotiations continue and assured workers they will be updated on the process.
