15 members of the Judiciary have officially received Instruments of Appointment to serve as Justices of the Peace (Ex Officio) and Commissioners of Affidavit.
These were presented today during a ceremony held at the Waterfront Judicial Centre in Port of Spain.
Among those present was Minister of Land and Legal Affairs, Saddam Hosein, who emphasised the importance of supporting the administration of justice.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice, Ronnie Boodoosingh, congratulated the appointees and encouraged them to perform their duties with integrity, diligence, understanding, compassion, patience and respect.
The appointments were made by the President under section 4(1) of the Summary Courts Act, Chap. 4:20, on the advice of the Attorney General.
As Justices of the Peace (Ex Officio) and Commissioners of Affidavit, the appointees are authorised to perform specific statutory functions as part of their official duties.
