The Homeland Security Ministry insists T&T is not running out of machine readable passports.

In a statement it says 50,000 booklets were received in October 2025 and 12,000 more in June 2026.

This is expected to be supplemented by 48,000 more in September 2026.

According to the Ministry, the Immigration Division issues fewer than 6,000 passports on average each month, and so, it expects the current supply to be more than enough.

Regarding the new e-Passport system, it says an Expression of Interest has already been completed, with submissions currently being evaluated.

The new system will introduce an online application and appointment platform, aimed at improving efficiency and transparency.

According to the Ministry, the next generation of machine readable passports will incorporate the new Coat of Arms with the steel pan, along with enhanced security features.

The e-Passport itself will also introduce internationally recognized biometric security technology, including an embedded electronic chip.
