A large quantity of cigarettes and other contraband have been seized at the Port of Spain Prison.
Around 6:45am today, officers confiscated a package suspected to have been thrown over the perimeter wall.
It contained 13 packs of L&M cigarettes, 10 packs of Du Maurier cigarettes, 20 loose L&M cigarettes, and 32 cigarette lighters.
Then, around 9:20am, another package was intercepted and confiscated after being thrown over the wall.
This one contained 50 packs of RAW wrapping paper, 25 packs of BAMBU wrapping paper, 10 packs of L&M cigarettes, and 28 cigarette lighters.
Acting Prisons Commissioner Elvin Scanterbury is warning members of the public that attempts to introduce prohibited articles into correctional facilities are unlawful and pose a significant threat to prison security and rehabilitative efforts.
