DPP Roger Gaspard has been given the case into the death of seven-year-old Angelica Jogie, to determine whether criminal charges will be laid in connection with the incident.

The T&T Express reports this was confirmed by Superintendent Rodhíl Kirk, adding that consultations continue into the matter.

Angelica died after being struck by a jet ski while at Pigeon Point Beach in Tobago, on April 8th, following which the operator was held and later released pending inquiries.

The incident has since prompted new legislation, with the Tobago Marine Park Bill passed in the Tobago House of Assembly last week, proposing fines of up to $100,000.

The Bill is expected to be laid in Parliament for debate and implementation.
