Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen says no taxpayer dollars were spent for either her or her son to visit Japan.
The Minister is currently in the Asian nation on an official visit at the invitation of the Japanese government.
On her official Facebook page, the Minister shared information and photos from her official duties, while on her personal page, she shared pictures showing her with her son in Tokyo.
Following public speculation, she reportedly told Guardian Media that her expenses are being covered by Japan, while her son’s flight, accommodation, meals are being paid for with her personal funds.
She also clarified that her son does not accompany her to official engagements, and that their time together comes “after the working day is done”.
The visit is focused on learning from Japan’s approaches to disaster management, rainwater harvesting and recycling.
