Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander says dogs can be used as a first line of defence to protect oneโ€™s home and family.

The Minister was replying to a question posed by Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal, which asked if the stand your ground legislation would cover the question of dangerous dogs.

Minister Alexander was fielding questions during a Stand Your Ground law public consultation in the Oropouche East constituency last evening.

Senator Anil Roberts posed a question to the Minister about intruders who may want to poison dogs in order to gain access to oneโ€™s home.

He asked for consideration to be given to address this matter in the legislation.

Meanwhile, Senator Darrell Allahar reminded citizens that this law is not merely about having or drawing a firearm but it is for the use of reasonable force to protect oneself from criminals.
