Corn Harvest

The Agriculture Ministry has recorded the successful harvest of locally grown corn under its Pilot Programme for Black-Eye Bean, Corn and Soya Bean Production.

This forms part of efforts to strengthen domestic feed-grain production, improve food security and reduce reliance on imports.

Minister Ravi Ratiram said the project demonstrates the potential for producing feed corn locally and supporting a more resilient livestock sector.

The harvested grain will be tested and shared with local feed mills and livestock farmers to assess its suitability.

Once successful, this programme could be expanded into larger-scale commercial production.
