Bird Flu simulation

Agriculture Minister Ravi Ratiram says preparedness is key to protecting T&T from possible animal disease outbreaks.

His comments came as the Ministry completed a simulation exercise focused on responding to highly pathogenic avian influenza, or bird flu.

The Minister said continued investments in veterinary services, partnerships and planning is essential to strengthen T&T’s ability to respond to animal health threats.

He noted the importance of simulation exercises to test systems, improve coordination and identify gaps, while protecting the livestock sector, rural livelihoods and food security.

FAO representative Dr Gillian Smith echoed the Minister’s comments, adding that results from the exercise will help strengthen national resilience and improve emergency response efforts.

The exercise brought together veterinary officials, emergency agencies, public health personnel and other stakeholders to test national response plans.
