A search at the Maximum Security Prison early this morning has led to the seizure of several prohibited items.
The T&T Prison Service said officers conducted the intelligence-led operation around 3AM, targeting the B and M Divisions.
14 cellular phones, more than two kilograms of plant-like substance resembling marijuana, 285 packs of cigarettes, improvised weapons and other items were seized.
Several inmates are expected to be charged.
In a separate incident, prison officers have seized contraband thrown over the wall at the jail in Port of Spain.
A search was conducted in the area on Thursday morning, after officers received information that a package had been thrown over the wall.
The recovered black plastic bag contained a bottle with 230 grams of a plant-like substance, wrapping paper and nine cigarette lighters.
The Prison Service is reiterating that attempts to bring prohibited items into prisons remain a serious security concern.
It is warning the public that introducing contraband into a prison is an offence and can lead to legal action.
