A police officer has been charged with Possession of Ammunition.

Around 7:45pm on August 17th, officers intercepted a black Nissan Sylphy along the Southern Main Road, Couva.

The officer, who was off-duty at the time, was found with a black plastic bag containing 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

He was detained and taken to the Chaguanas Police Station, where the ammunition was processed for evidential purposes.

The vehicle was also secured for further examination, while searches were carried out at the officer’s residence and locker at the Couva Police Station, although nothing illegal was found in those instances.

The TTPS insists the badge is not a shield against accountability, adding that it will not tolerate any criminal conduct by officers.
