Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles-Robinson is calling for greater public scrutiny of the proposed amendments to the public procurement law.
In a statement today, she raised particular concern with Clause 5, which she says would reduce the powers of the Office of Procurement Regulation to intervene in procurement matters.
Mrs Beckles-Robinson pointed to the OPR’s intervention in April, when it directed the HDC to halt the proposed award of $3.4 billion in housing contracts pending a review.
She is also questioning new procurement exemptions and the proposed increase of the exemption threshold from $1 million to $2 million.
Additionally, concerns were raised about proposed new exemptions for energy, national security, public housing partnerships and certain emergencies.
