The Nutritionists and Dietitians Board is distancing itself from recent public statements on the treatment of certain non-communicable diseases.

In a media release, the Board said some of the statements are inconsistent with evidence-based healthcare standards.

It reaffirmed that the prevention and management of NCDs should be guided by scientific evidence, clinical guidelines and individualised patient care.

The Board also stressed that medical nutrition therapy should form part of an individualised treatment plan and be provided by qualified, registered professionals.

It said registered practitioners must follow professional standards, the Code of Ethics and applicable regulations.
