The NCRHA is strongly denying claims made by T&T Nurses Association that there was “one midwife to nine patients in labour” at the Mt. Hope Women’s Hospital on May 4th.
In a statement, the Authority said the claim is “factually incorrect, misleading, and unsupported by verified records.”
It outlined staffing levels for the day, stating that multiple midwives were present across morning, afternoon, and night shifts, with births recorded during each period.
The NCRHA added that its internal records were verified by the Medical Chief of Staff on site, Professor Bharat Bassaw, and it described the claims as “potentially defamatory.”
The Authority said additional nursing resources have already been approved and recruitment is ongoing to strengthen healthcare services.
