The fire at the Globe City Complex in Chase Village is almost completely extinguished, as fire officers continue to “dampen down” remaining hotspot areas.
Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Ansar Ali confirmed this in an update with 103.1FM News shortly before 6PM today.
Deputy CFO Ali estimates that between 80 and 85% of the building was damaged, adding the cause for the fire remains under investigation, with officials yet to enter the premises for a full assessment.
The blaze, which reportedly began around 9AM today, was brought under control with the support of approximately 50 fire officers, six fire appliances, and assistance from WASA.
No injuries have been reported.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Works has advised of a temporary road closure between the Chase Village Overpass and the Southern Main Road, in the vicinity of Thompson Road.
This is to facilitate ongoing emergency response activities at the site of the blaze.
Motorists are being diverted via alternative routes, including the Chaguanas and Freeport exits, and are urged to follow all directions from officials on site.
