A female Prisons Officer, with more than 19 years of service, has been arrested after she was allegedly found with a quantity of prohibited articles at the Golden Grove Prison.
In a release, the T&T Prison Service says the officer was arrested around 8:45 this morning during a routine security check.
She was taken to the Arouca Police Station, where she is assisting police with inquiries and is expected to be formally charged.
Meanwhile, the Prison Officers Association says it has no tolerance for trafficking or facilitating the movement of contraband into or within correctional institutions.
The Association says anyone found to have compromised the security and integrity of the Prison Service must be held accountable through the appropriate processes.
