An investigation is underway following the discovery of seven human cadavers at a compound in Central Trinidad.

On Wednesday, officers of the Multi-Agency Task Force received a request from the Environmental Management Authority to visit a location off the Uriah Butler Highway, south of Courts and adjacent to Conex Readymix Ltd.

Around 10:40am on Thursday, a team of officers and EMA personnel went to the location, where they met an individual who identified himself as the operator of an establishment on the compound.

During an inspection, they found the cadavers in a refrigeration unit within a building on the compound.

The individual was unable to provide documentation relating to the identities of the deceased persons and the authority under which the bodies were being kept at the location.

The TTPS says the investigation is currently focused on establishing the identities of the deceased persons, how the bodies came to be at the location, and whether all legal and regulatory requirements governing the possession, handling and storage of human remains were being observed.
