Works Minister Jearlean John has committed to strengthening infrastructure, in the wake of site assessments in the Barataria/San Juan community.
Today, the Minister was led on a tour by MP Saddam Hosein, and Aranguez/Warner Village councillor Amit Sooknanan.
They visited:
β’ The Sadhu Trace and William Street Pump Houses, where the team examined the repair and installation of pumps and floodgates
β’ Chanka Trace, where ponding issues were observed and long-term drainage upgrades discussed
β’ Churchill Roosevelt Highway near Lifestyle Motors and Courts Megastore, where plans for desilting, culvert cleaning and watercourse expansion were discussed
β’ Boundary Road and the Eastern Main Road near Caribbean Glass, where road repairs and drain desilting are required
β’ Fourth Street, Barataria, where the team discussed the repair of a river wall and retaining wall
Following the site assessments, Mr Hosein delivered a presentation to the Minister, highlighting additional priority areas for intervention.
