A woman is assisting investigators after being caught sneaking contraband into the Eastern Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre.
Around 11am yesterday, the 32-year-old woman was visiting her husband, a detainee, when she was seen passing an item through a small space at the top of the visit cubicle.
The man was subsequently searched, resulting in the confiscation of a small brown envelope containing six cigarettes and three packs of wrapping paper.
He is being held under a Preventive Detention Order and charges are expected to follow.
The TTPS was also contacted and are currently spearheading the investigation.
The Prison Service says it will maintain a zero-tolerance approach to the introduction of prohibited items into prisons and warns that attempts to do so will be dealt with in accordance to the law.
