A tropical depression could form in the Atlantic over the next day or two.

The National Hurricane Centre is monitoring an area of low pressure centered a few hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands.

It is currently producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

The NHC says environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development, with the system likely to become a tropical depression at it moves westward.

Looking further ahead, it says conditions could become less conducive for development by the weekend.
