Questions are being raised over the TTPS’s body-worn camera capacity, as Parliament prepares to debate the Special Operations Bill today.
Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro says just over 100 body cameras are currently operational, with additional units now being procured.
He said the available cameras have been assigned to frontline officers, but their battery life remains a challenge, lasting only about an hour and a half to two hours.
Former Top Cop Gary Griffith has challenged those claims, questioning both the reported battery limitations and the whereabouts of hundreds of cameras acquired during his tenure.
Commissioner Guevarro also raised concerns about officers having to manually switch the devices on and off during operations.
