Following a demonstration in Port of Spain yesterday where three persons were arrested, police say they were acting to protect public safety.

Demonstrators gathered near the DPP’s office on Richmond Street calling for transparency in the case involving Kaia Sealy, who was wounded during a police operation in January that left Joshua Samaroo dead.

Even after being warned, and after protesters relocated nearby while chanting for justice, officers intervened and made the arrests.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Gavin Henry yesterday stressed that the country is still operating under a State of Emergency.

Regarding the matter being highlighted, he called on citizens to trust the judicial process.

Meanwhile it is not clear whether the three persons who were detained yesterday have been charged.
