Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has accused the PNM of promoting lawlessness and weakening public trust in the country’s justice system.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Prime Minister claimed that sections of the PNM, along with criminal elements and their supporters, were attacking the several law enforcement agencies.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar said the country’s high levels of violent crime are partly due to a culture that excuses crime and criticises law enforcement.
She also reaffirmed the Government’s support to the country’s protective services, ensuring that law enforcement officers and prosecutors are respected and protected.
Her comments come amid continued controversy surrounding the police killing of Joshua Samaroo and the charges laid against his common-law wife, Kaia Sealy.
