Animal welfare groups are calling on the Government to strengthen the response to animal cruelty and stray animal control.
This follows two recent cases involving a puppy being beaten to death and a dog being deliberately run over.
In a joint statement, the T&T Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Animal Welfare Network said the incidents highlight an “ongoing animal cruelty crisis”.
They are calling for stronger enforcement of existing laws, better resources to investigate cruelty cases, humane government facilities and a national approach to managing stray and roaming animals.
While they will continue their work, they maintain that animal welfare organisations cannot continue to carry the responsibility alone.
