The PNM is rejecting claims that its political leader failed to act on a “corrupt and criminal element” within the party.
The allegation was levelled by San Fernando East MP Brian Manning, who has recently been at odds with the now-former Chairman of his Constituency Executive, Patricia Alexis.
Last week, the party said a team examined the concerns raised by both and called on those involved to “avoid public ventilation”.
Today, the PNM issued a statement accusing Mr Manning of statements that unfairly cast aspersions on the Party, its leader and the constituency, a point that was reinforced by Deputy Leader Sanjiv Boodhu at a subsequent media conference.
Party Chairman Marvin Gonzales also called on Mr Manning to conduct himself responsibly.
Regarding the resignation of the entire constituency executive, Mr Gonzales said he was “not surprised”, adding that the leadership will now put the necessary mechanisms in place to ensure all party groups have their AGMs and Constituency Elections.
