A successful harvest of black eye beans has been recorded under the Ministry of Agriculture’s pilot crop programme.
The initiative also includes corn and soya beans to test the commercial viability of key grains and legumes and reduce import dependence.
Speaking today, Agriculture Minister Ravi Ratiram described the project as a critical step toward strengthening national food security and creating new opportunities for farmers.
He said the programme will be assessed for expansion into large-scale commercial production with regional and international partners.
