Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath on Monday officially commissioned the Penal Rock Road Storage Terminal, symbolically turning on the water during the opening ceremony.
He said the project forms part of a broader effort to strengthen water distribution networks, with several additional storage terminals being developed across the Penal district.
The new facilities are expected to improve supply to Penal Rock Road, Ribiero Trace, Bunty Trace and surrounding communities.
Chairman of the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation, Gowtam Maharaj, described the initiative as a strong example of public service delivery.
“There are no limitations to accessing this service,” he said in a video message, “Anyone can call in and I’m hearing that in some cases, within an hour water is delivered.”
